About the Cover

Cover Figure

Cover Picture: Relief from parkinsonian symptoms is correlated with the cortical effects of deep brain stimulation of the subthalamic nucleus. The surface plot shows 4 cortical responses evoked by electrical stimulation of the subthalamic nucleus of a rat. In this animal rendered akinetic by dopaminergic antagonists, the amplitude of the cortical evoked potential during the stimulation is inversely proportional to the level of akinesia (3D bars). The pseudocolor plot at the back displays successively evoked potential during high frequency stimulation in the case the animal is successfully rescued from dopamine inactivation. See Dejean et al. 2009. Cortical effects of subthalamic stimulation correlate with behavioral recovery from dopamine antagonist induced akinesia. Cereb Cortex 19(5): 1055–1063.
