Cover Picture: Statistical significance of V2 thin stripe luminance-change optical response. Single condition activation in V2 thin stripe in response to a 30 cd/m2 average luminance grating from a 20 cd/m2 uniform background (+10 cd/m2). This image represents the mean optical response 1.3 to 2.8 seconds after stimulus onset (50 stimulus repetitions) divided by the first pre-stimulus frame and is filtered by a difference of Gaussian filter (DOG with standard deviations of 49 μm and 326 μm to remove low frequency illumination and high frequency pixel noise. The statistical significance of this activation was evaluated by a Student's t test on a pixel by pixel basis compared with the pre-stimulus activity. Three levels of statistical significance were evaluated and were plotted on the single condition response image; p<.05, green contour, p<.005, red contours, and p<.0005, yellow contours. Pixels not reaching the statistical threshold are set to the pale gray and significant pixels retain their gray-scale coding of response amplitude.
