About the Cover

Cover Figure

Cover Picture: Extraclassical receptive field phenomena in V1, such as surround suppression and contrast dependent receptive growth, are commonly attributed to long-range lateral connections and/or extrastriate feedback. Wielaard and Sajda use a large-scale spiking neuron model of layer 4 of V1 to present rigorous computational support for the hypothesis that these phenomena largely result from local short-range cortical connections and lateral geniculate nucleus input. See Wielaard and Sajda, pp. [1531–1545]. (Cover art design by Mimi Duvall).
