About the Cover

Cover Figure

Cover Picture: Confocal microscopic image of spinal cord projecting neurons expressing N200. Green fluorescent latex microspheres were injected into the upper cervical spinal cord of adult rats. The green microspheres were retrogradely transported to the soma of the spinal cord projecting neurons in cortical layer V. The neurofilament 200 antibody (N200; red) recognizes both the phosphorylated and non-phosphorylated forms of medium-size neurofilaments. This image demonstrates that N200 specifically bound to spinal cord projecting layer V neurons. It has also been shown that N200 binds to superior colliculus - but not contralateral cortex - projecting layer V pyramidal neurons. Medium-size neurofilaments (such as N200), may be important markers for subcortical projecting layer V pyramidal neurons. See Voelker et al., pp. 1276-1286.
