Cover Picture: Top: Preparation of isolated slab from cat suprasylvian gyrus. A home-made crescent knife was inserted through the dura mater into the cortex along its curve and was then turned right and left until the blade appeared under the pia mater. The pia remained intact with the exception of the place where the knife entered. Bottom: Propagation of evoked activity in the small isolated cortical slab from area 7. Simultaneous recordings of field potentials and triple simultaneous intracellular recordings. Low intensity (0.15 mA) stimulation within the slab elicited a field potential and intracellular activities that propagated from the stimulating electrode towards the extremities of the slab.
